Round Two

It's Saturday, you know what that means for me. 5th and 6th grade basketball! The Lakers (aka the team with the crazy woman's son) played in my gym this morning at 9:00. This week we brought in reinforcements. Along with two score keepers and myself, we had a really good ref who is not afraid to tell parents whats up and who loves getting yelled at (Dusty) and our boss Susie. The game starts and crazy woman, we'll name her Don, is sitting right at the half court line with mean face on. The first call of the game is made and I happen to notice that Don has a pen and paper in hand...(maybe it's so she can write my name down again and turn it into the boss). The first half goes by and what do you know, Dons sons team has seven fouls and the opposing team has one.

*Keep in mind, Dons complaints last week were that the refs suck and don't call fouls both ways*

Don comes over to the score table during half time (this time with the director of the program present) with complaints that the other team is fouling a lot. She had her piece of paper showing how many fouls and travels were called on each of the teams so she could show Susie (Don can just see better from her 50 yard line seats). The other team was not fouling, they're just good. I'm not sure what was said, or if anyone even said anything between her rants but she switched to cry yelling at Susie and decided that the program isn't fair. The draft isn't fair and teams are stacked. This is how the draft works, the coaches pick their teams: one coach at a time picks one player at a time...that is not fair one bit! After raving about the unfairness of the league she switched back to what a bad job Dusty and I were doing reffing. OH AND the score is Other Team: 15 Lakers: 1
...
thats definitely the refs fault. After trying to explain to Don things that were going on on the court and her not listening Dusty said, "See this jersey? (while tugging on his stripped shirt) You can pick one up and go register yourself to ref." Don replied, "Oh I will." She's such a liar haha she said that last week when I told her to go sign up.

Alright, second half action. We paid close attention to the other teams fouls and less attention to the Lakers haha. I didn't want to, in spite of Don being such a hag but we did it to try and calm her down.

End of game
Fouls:
Other Team- 8 Lakers-4

Score:
Other team- 30 Lakers-2

In the words of Dusty
"You count the fouls that half? Oh look at the score... Weird! ... Suck it" haha

Between this lady and 75% of the coaches and parents that come to the games yelling at me, and the other refs, I am really getting torn down emotionally haha.
I'm not sure if reffing these games is making me stronger mentally or just tearing me apart.

We'll see by March haha.
